  • I've gotten the NPC template working... with some problems.
    • Problem one: This format doesn't leave room for any dialogue, so for now we'll either have to come up with a seperate series of pages for NPC dialogues or leave it out of the wiki entirely. (Ok, technically we could put it in the NPC pages like before, but then we'll get masses of text at the top of the pages due to a bug in the MediaWiki engines. Not good for people unused to WoTs.) I'm favoring the latter because it's so much work getting all the dialogue in and we're still not caught up with the backlog. If somebody wants to see the dialogues, they really should play the quest. Less spoilers this way, too.
But I'm still open for suggestions on how to handle the dialogues. If anyone has a bright idea, let me know (via the talk page, as per usual; email is likely to be deleted without opening if I don't have a good idea of who it is).
    • Problem two: Somebody needs to update those hundred-plus NPC files.
    • Problem three: That somebody is likely to be me.
  • As for the image problem: I know why all of the non-updated ones show the ImageNeeded file. The original used an image tag that looks like this: {{{image}}} and |image=
Whereas the new one uses this: {{{Image}}} and |Image=. You can just change it when the rest of the pages are swept.
    Capitalization does matter.
  • For all you auditory/visual and kinesthetic learners: WoT is fond shorthand for Wall of Text among some players. Usually, it precedes the word 'post' and is used to refer to certain activity on the official BattleOn forums. This time though, it's a wiki update.

  • Quick update: I've finished adding in most of the Geekatron entries, though I still have to do a combo template. I'm using a new system for the effect entries, which will hopefully turn out to look nicer and keep things organized a little more over the long run :P Also cleaned up some older entries.
The NPC template has stalled since you last heard about it. I know what I want it to look like, but I'm stumped as to how I can translate that into wiki syntax. Still, once I get past that it shouldn't be too hard to finish, and I may be able to have a prototype working next weekend. We've needed one of these for quite a while, so it's pretty exciting work. *whisper* Better than replacing images or trying to keep up with all the rares!

  • Completely re-did Enemy template similar to the template used on MQ forum Encyclopedia to reflect how the enemies are right now. Slowly updating as many enemies with new templates. But still want to move where image is being shown in the template any help would be appreciated. Updated Completely Jimmy the Eye-Pod, The tech phantom Series and Shadow Scorpion. Now just need images of enemy attacks.

  • Starting work on the NPC template tonight. When I'm finished, all the info you see in NPC pages now will still be there; it'll just look neater. I'm thinking of using multiple smaller templates and feeding those results into the main template, but that can wait. My main problem right now is deciding which fields to keep and which ones can be streamlined or removed.
Question(s) of the week: What do you want to see when you look at a NPC page? Would you like the pages to look like they do now, or a regular item template? What could be added to the template, and what's just useless clutter?
I'm thinking through my answers to those questions, but I'd like to hear some other opinions first. If anyone's still using this wiki, drop me a line on my talk page. (Once next Saturday rolls around, I'll start coding the actual template. Please don't wait until the last minute to tell me what you think ;) )
  • I've also changed the way the '08/'09 news archives are handled, to keep them from becoming unwieldy in the future. Instead of a separate page for each month, I grouped the archives by year with subsections... well, why don't you just look and see for yourself?

  • A couple days ago, I redid the stat mods template to use a slightly different system. The nice thing is that now we have all six fields coded into it, but only the relevant ones will be included in item pages (i.e. the fields which have been filled out). The worse thing is that now any Mod entry will have a bunch of empty lines at the top of the page. Annoying, but it doesn't have any real effect on the item pages, so I decided not to break the template again.
Next project I'm tackling will be an actual NPC template, plus some of the more recently released items. Might be a week or two before I get to do any real work on either, due to biology and a detail-intensive piece of artwork, but you can expect to see some new pages up over the weekend.
